Whoops! I forgot to blog about a book that was simply delightful! If any has read The Giver by Lois Lowry, they will immediately have a clue of the structure of the series. However, if you haven't, you might have time to pick the way things are a bit. That is one thing I feel the author could have done a little bit better, because every one hasn't read The Giver, and Gathering Blue. Moving right along then! Two dream-givers are watching over people who are connected through a blood bond, or just friends, the point is, they give them dreams! But not the bad ones, good ones. The people, or 'things' rather, that give nightmares are rather scary [but that's my opinion]! The touching story is some thing anyone would enjoy,so read it!

This book describes the childhoods and growing up of three doctors and their friends. The three doctors wrote this book to show that, no matter where you came from, or how much money you have, you can do almost anything that you work hard for.

The Host

The Host is by Stephanie Meyer. She is also the author of the Twilight series. The Host is a VERY different book from the Twilight books, it doesn't have vampires, but it DOES have love and romance, and two people who can't be together fall in love. The host is about "souls" who choose a planet, and recieve a host, or body, to live in. Once the Host dies, souls recieve a new host or, like Wanderer, move on to a new planet. Wanderer's host, Melanie, refuses to give up full control of her mind. What starts out as a rivalry, becomes a good and close friendship. Melanie leads Wanderer to the safe house here crazy uncle Jeb created, and they discover something much different form what they expected. This book is 619 pages long, but don't let that scare you.

Homecoming

Homecoming is a book about a small group of kids who are abandoned by their mom in a parkinglot. In this book they adventure across the East Coast to find a place where they can live. They go through many hardships, and they travel on foot very far. They finally found one of their extended family members and decide to live with her. When they get there, she is very mean, and they become afraid. But after a short period of time, they realize she is becoming nice. In they end they live happily with her. The whole book goes through a long series where they are trying to find their very rich aunt. But on their way they find a much better home, and live there forever. It turns out that they would've hated living with the aunt, and they are very happy with their other aunt.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol is by Charles Dickens. If you have not read the original story buy Charles Dickens, (NOT THE MICKEY MOUSE SUMMARIZED VERSION!!!!!) you really should. I will not lie to you, it can get boring if you are a slow reader, but definatley worth the time. Charles Dickens really brings out the best in Scrooge in this book, and there is nothing better than a happy ending for a good Christmas story. Christmas Carol will make you laugh, cry, become happy and mad, but it will not bore you.

Tex

Tex is by S.E. Hinton. Tex is a book about a kid who lives life in poverty and around drugs. This book is full of action and exciting twists. He deals with drug dealing and fights, as him and his brother struggle to pay the most basic bills. Texas is a good boy, who avoids the dangers of the streets and adores horses. He is very much so a cowboy at heart. This book is a quick and easy read, that everyone can enjoy.

Ugly Guide: To the Uglyverse Ugly Guide One

Oh My! This is one of the greatest books of history. Its so raddd, I dont even believe it has page numbers. When I was scanning through my reading log, I discovered that all the novels I read, were, hardcore novels, and I needed to spice that up a bit. This fun loving book is written and illustrated by David Horvath& Sun-Min Kim. The pictures and context a none other than amazing. Being an ugly doll REALLY shows us that the outside really doesnt matter, because these guys are Halarious. My favorite characters are Ox & Wedgehead! Simply put, they are classic theives with a purpose! THroughout the book, you'll catch these guys at local social events, crashing and bashing, along, with the other uglies. This book cost me $5.99 at the book fair, but the Uglydolls are so popular you can probably purchase it at Barnes and Nobles! The book has a way of writing that it will make you smile when you are bored, entertain a younger siblin [or perehaps older] and just plain fun(; You heard [read] it from me!!!

STAR WARS REPUBLIC COMMANDO: HARD CONTACT

This book gives us the untold story of the clones and how hard and how awesome the commando's job is. It is written by Karen Traviss and is 340 pages. It is cool to know that clones actually have a life and some are mistreated.

Home of the Braves

On the 30th of November, I finished the book Home of the Braves by David Klass. This 312 page novel has no comparison with his book You Don' Know Me, written at a later date. When I checked this book was published in 2002. The story begins with a preface of the school being haunted and all of other detail that will really pull the reader in, however, the book doesnt follow through with those details. I was hoping for a fast on the edge novel, where the main character Joe, would solve some sort of mystery linking the new kid, and the mysteries of their high school's legacy, however, the details skipped around. I am in no way saying that the book isn't well written, I was disappointed. The story takes plae in New Jersey, focusing on the life of Joe Brickman, when all of a sudden, a new Brazilian soccer star comes racing forth, stealing glory, helpping out the popularity of the soccer team, but making things hectic. Maybe some where in my reading I missed the point of where Brickman made some sort of connection but I didn't find one.

But one thing is for sure, when Klass gets down to the craving mischief, and bumping throwdowns teens love, he does it well. As I read, I found myself, ready for more action, standing up, screaming, and well, thats just my wild TRACIA-ness factor, but do you get what the point is? I am telling you, rather, COMMANDING YOU, to at least give the book a chance. Even though I was let down, I am one person, with her opionion [sp?], so check it out.

Hi everyone! just got done with The Stand. it has around 750pages, is written by stephen king, and is about the u.s. military making a "SuperFlu" that kills 99.4 percent of the world. the remaining .6% converge in america where the good and evil people make different cities and declare war on each other, finally leading to the evil side getting a nuke and accidentaly blowing them selves up:) not for anyone who doesn't like detailed death, cussing, and scariness.

This is a book written by comedian George Carlin. Like much of his stand-up, this book also deals with his religious and political outlooks. In terms of his other books, this book is more darker and more critical. This book is also focused mostly on euphemisms used in advertising and politically correct language. It is about 200 pages long and you could find it at any bookstore. This book is not for the easily offended.

The author of Me Of Little Faith is comedian Lewis Black. In this book, he shares his opinions about all religions. He also describes what life was like being raised Jewish. Me Of Little Faith also includes some of his most famous stand-up material. This book is very funny and it makes you think about what's going on in life. This book is about 300 pages long and you could find it at any bookstore. I defenetely recommend this book for anybody who likes political/religious humour.

Things Go Wrong in A School Built Wrong

Everyone knows that silliness is like a disease, it spreads amongst everyone. Well in Sideways Stories of Wayside School, it can be clearly seen that the school starts the silliness. First of all, the building was supposed to be built with 30 classrooms right next to each other in a straight row. Instead, the builder got mixed up and built the school 30 stories high ! Louis Sachar begins his tales on the thirtieth floor, where Mrs. Gorf, the meanest teacher, works her magic and turns her students into apples one by one. Besides this mischief, the children somehow manage to turn themselves back into humans, transform Mrs. Gorf into an apple, and have her eaten by Louis, the yard teacher. Soon, a new teacher, Mrs. Jewels replaces Mrs. Gorf and she is so nice, the children are terrified. The children begin to adjust to their new teacher and also her behavior system. Each chapter describes a new character, much like Seedfolks did. The audience learns about Joe, the child who couldn't count correctly, Todd, the blamed one, Sharie, the lazy sleeper, Bebe, the artist, and much more. Each kid comes with their own story to describe their personality and doings. Along with this unique formatting, the book also contains a contagious amount of humor that anyone at any age would enjoy. Read this story to find out how the children get rid of Mrs. Gorf, spirit and all, plus hear the hilarious ending that will keep you smiling. It sure kept me smiling. :)

The order of things

This book is around 300 pgs long and realy does take a long time to read. The order of things about pecking orders, ranks, and just random info you never knew you wanted to know. I suggest this book for anyone who is wanting to learn more than school system gives you.

The universe in your pocket is a great misc. study guide for any test in any class (except lang. arts). Also a great study guide for NAL *wink wink*. This book is filled with slightly random info about anything from Doomsday theories to animal classifications to tallest buildings to countries and their capitols. This book is around 200 pgs long and is an easy read (found it borders)

The Kayla Chronicles

first let me warn you: this is a very girly book guys {cough cough and kasey cough cough who doesnt like cough cough "whiners" cough cough cough} it is about a 15 year old girl named Kayla {hence the title} and her friend Rosalie. the two girls want to become journalists and Rosalie has the perfect plan to "kick off their career". at their school, they have a dance team called the lady lions, and Rosalie's convinced that only "bubble busted" girls are allowed to join. so according to Rozy's plan, Kayla will try out for the team with her many years of gymnastics classes and not be allowed to join because of her "not-so-bubble-busted" chest. i repeat: a very girly book! it's by Sherry Winston and has 188 pages. sounds a little short but i got sucked into it. its very interesting to mee.

A Child Called IT

This was one of the worst books that I'd ever read. Yet at the same time, it made a permanent and lasting effect on me.

If you're not into the depressingly horrible sorts of books, do not pick this one up. All of my Mexican friends back in Newton told me that I should read it because they said it was one of those books that you cannot put down. And I've got to admit, they were most definately right, but for the worst reasons. Like, the only questions running through my mind while I was reading was 'Is he going to live through this?' and 'What kind of sick parents are these?' It makes you really grateful for your mother and father because this is an autobiography about one of the worst child-abuse cases in America - written by Dave Peltzer.

If you do not have a strong stomach, I fervently suggest that you do not read this. The book and it's horrifyingly surreal details made my stomach do flips and clench up in pain. I could not put the book down folks because it would've just been so wrong to do so. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but the first time I read this book was in fifth grade. The second was a few weeks ago at the public library. I stayed there for seven hours before I finished all 148 pages of it, pale and nauseous. It was just as bad as the first time.

It reminds me of Anne Frank to a certain degree because of the autobiographic relations. However, I'm sure you can relate to Dave Pelzer more than you can Anne Frank because this was much more recent - not to mention in our country.

I hated the book for making me gag and being so depressing, but the author uses good fluency and words. It's a good book if you look only at the quality of the writing and I think it's a narrative that you should read at least once before graduating college. But seriously - it's a really grim book. If you're looking for a fun easy read, this is not a novel you'd turn to.

Neighborhood Connects With Garden

What starts with a nine year old Vietnamese girl planting 3 Lima beans for her long gone father, turns into community garden, and into an entire neighborhood bond. This happened when Ana, an old woman, watches the Vietnamese girl do something behind a trashcan, in an empty lot. When Ana digs up the area, she finds the seeds and feels bad, so reburies them. Feeling good to be involved, she keeps watching the beans take growth. As the story continues, people, one by one, start to notice the small garden and take part, not knowing what the future had in store. Each chapter, a new character's point of view is expressed, and we soon find out that everyone has had an important history, which caused their contributions to the garden. After a while, the garden grows and grows as the neighbors- elders, youngsters, new comers, and long time residents start to connect with one another. Everyone began with their own reasons to plant something, and what the garden gave each one back was very different. Like the garden- colorful and unique, the neighbors talked and befriended each other, earning trust and comfort with the people living near them. Read this book and see how significantly the garden takes this once polluted quiet neighborhood for a transformation. The author's good uses of comparisons will also help you picture the scenes in many parts of the book. ;)

Mom Comes Back After Seven Years

As I've noticed, Pam Munoz Ryan's Esperanza Rising and Becoming Naomi Leon share many similarities. First of all, the covers both have a long haired girl that is either jumping or rising. Secondly, the titles both have the main character's name on it. Thirdly, the stories both deal with family bonds and Mexican culture. Lastly, they both have earned many awards. Having only read "Becoming Naomi Leon", it is almost a must to read Esperanza.

The novel is based around the life of Naomi Soledad Leon Outlaw. Besides the fact of having the weirdest, longest name in the world, she lives in a place called the Avocado Acres Trailer Rancho with her middle classed grandma and disabled younger brother. Naomi describes her talents as soap carving, worrying, and making lists. She developed her soap carving skills from her father, who left when she was just a baby. Her mother was the one that gave her and her brother to grandma. Naomi worries that grandma would die any day, that her brother would never be normal, and that she might lose her lists and forget things. Living life as it comes, Naomi experiences similar routines each day. That is, until the day her mother came back- after 7 years. Her grandma is dumbfounded, and is not wild about the reunion. Naomi's mom, now alcoholic, carried along her obnoxious boyfriend. Along with the shock that Naomi and her brother are having, their mother seems to be lathering Naomi with gifts and affection, leaving her brother out on everything. After this, her mother's boyfriend suggests that Naomi moves in with them, and become the babysitter of his own girl. This forms a battle between grandma, Naomi, her brother, the neighbor, and their mother with her boyfriend. Read the rest of the book to find out how the four plan to fight for their old lives back, and see how Naomi finds her other half. This story connects to MANY all around the world because this type of family conflict can be found almost anywhere. Readers connect well with the characters, for they amazingly seem real. This story about Naomi's family and her future's beginning teaches a useful lesson and is a extraordinary one to read.

Star Wars Shadows of the Empire

This book tells about a different extremely powerful dark lord other than Darth Vader. His name is Xizor (pronounced she-zer) and he is the leader of Black Sun an underground spy Orginization. They both work for Lord Sidious. Darth Vader wants to capture Luke Skywalker to give his master the ultimate prize. Xizor wants to kill Skywalker to put Vader in Shame and take his place as Sidious' right hand man. Darth Vader realizes what is happening and tries to kill Xizor without his master knowing because the first time he tried, he got punished. It is 168 pages long and written by Christopher Golden.

Star Wars Boba Fett The Fight to Survive

This is abook about Boba Fett one of the galaxy's fiercest bounty Hunters. His father was the most powerful bounty hunter in his time. Boba loses his dad at 12 and has to fight for his in the of a galaxy at war. It is 157 pages long and written by Terry Bisson. I liked it because it told the story of one of my favorite Star Wars characters ever.

It is also interesting that the book describes the culture of geonosians who appear insignificant but actually without them the seperatist army would rely completely on Baktoid armor which isnt big enough to support as much demand as the seperatists need. This book goes into why the geonosians are able to make droids better than Baktoid (the main reason is that when they are born in their hives they are given a starfighter to take care of and usually dont have anything else to do but mess with droids). I found it very fascinating to learn that much about a species that is wrongly not treated as a key part in the Star Wars saga.

I am redoing an old post like Mrs. Forsberg told me to. I am currently reading Harry Potter 4 The Goblet of Fire. It is 734 pages long and is written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter finds himself having to Face challenges of grave danger several years beyond that of his magical schooling whenhe didnt even enter the contest that brought it all about.

I've owned Sixth Grade Nickname Game for two years; when I was on a Battle of the Books team, it was on my list of books to read. And, as can be expected of me..I never read it, and I never brought it back.

Last weekend the DSL was out of control, leaving me bored and without a stable internet connection. I picked up the first book I found and started flipping through the pages. Enticed, I went back to the beginning and spent a little while each day over the weekend reading. How sad it is that I never started when I first received it!

Sixth Grade Nickname Game is about two sixth graders - Jeff and Wiley - who, obviously, are notorious for sticking nicknames onto everyone they know. They've been best friends for all eleven years of their life and have never done something without the other. Inseperable, they are.

..That is, until their teacher retires and is replaced with a ginormous foot ball coach, dubbed Mr. Huge. Until the school's biggest snoop challenges them to nickname the most bland, boring guy around. Until Cassandra, the cute, wacky, animal-loving girl joins their class and turns their world upsidedown.

Cassandra especially comes across as a threat with her unusual charm, and it's up to Jeff and Wiley to keep their string of friendship tied. Not to mention their reputation as the nicknamers, and their new teacher's job are at stake!

You Don't Know Me

You Don't Know Me is a very good suspense book written by David Klass. It follows a kid named John throughout his life at school, his social life, and his personal life. The reason why the beginning is so suspenseful is that it is full of contradictions. But then as the chapter progresses, the suspense level goes down and then raises again. It is 344 pages and can be found in the school library. Another great book.

Seedfolk

We just got done reading this book called Seedfolk in science. It is about a group of very different people with very different problems and how a garden brought them all together with something in common, a love for growing fruits and vegetables. I don't remember the author, but it was a little over 100 pages. It is a great book if you like reading about how something so insignificant can bring so many people together.

Alice Cooper: Golf Monster

Alice Cooper: Golf Monster is an auto-biography about how golf saved Alice Cooper from destroying himself. He says that he thinks golf just relaxes him and actually helps him become Alice Cooper on stage. It is about 400 pages long, and unfortunately, I couldn't find it in the library here at school. But I'm sure if you look around at Border's or Barnes & Noble you can find it. It really is a great book and worth the search.

Tuesdays With Morrie is a story about a man who graduates from college and because his teacher has a disease he spends days with him talking about very philosophical(sp?) topics. It is written by Mitch Albom and it is about 190 pages long.

New J.K. Rowling book

I just purchased a book called Harry Potter The Tales of Beedle the Bard. It costs $12 but was on sale 40% off so Igot it for $7. It is 111 pages.

It is about the wizarding childrens stories mentioned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The titles of the chidren's storie are, The Wisard and the Hopping Pot,The Fountain of Fair Fortune,The Warlock's Hairy Heart, Babbity Rabbity and Her Cackling Stump, and the most famous The Tale of Three Brothers.

Each story has commentary by Albus Dumbledore.

Boy Finds Dog in Sea

In this story, the main character goes by Tom Campbell, a 13 year old orphan. Tom has been in the orphanage since the age of 3. His only dream was to have a family and a dog of his own. Half of this dream is finally fulfilled when Tom is sent to Back o' the Moon Island to live with a fisherman and his wife to work. The couple go by Enoch and Fiona, and are very friendly. He is welcomed by a clean soothing room with a nice view of the ocean. On his first fishing trip with Enoch, a severe storm erupts, and on their way home, Tom finds a dog lost in the sea. They rescue the dog and Tom names it Thunder, from the thunder streak scar on his chest. This is probably where the book recieved its title, Thunder From The Sea by Joan Hiatt Harlow. He soon finds himself cherishing the dog. He takes care of the dog and the dog follows him everywhere he grows. Meanwhile, their neighbor's child, Bert, is making things difficult for Tom by bullying him constantly. Soon, Enoch's wife becomes pregnant, and Thunder's owner is identified. Tom is worried that with the new baby, the couple might not want him anymore, and he will lose his first dog. Thunder's owner comes, and Thunder has to choose his owner. Read this book to find out whether this book finishes off happily, or depressingly. This story will for sure change the way you think, and make you see things differently. Now, when I hear orphan, I remember how Tom feels about moving into a new place and how he falt like an outcast.

This is because he lives with a big family and is hardly ever noticed by his talents. One of his brothers plays football, and one of his sisters plays soccer. He, on the other hand chooses to be in a play at school. Leo's chosen part was the Old Crone (Old woman) and he is not very pleased. Throughout the story line, Leo finds himself in ugly situations and imagines the situations afterwards, when he is always the hero. His imagination replays and he sees himself as a successful coach, a doctor, and even a movie star. When he finds his father's childhood belongings, he discovers unrevealed secrets about his family. Leo finds a journal, written by his father as a child, who is not always happy. He starts to develop the reason why his father was the way he was. When he tried to learn more about his past family, someone cried and fainted. After a while, his grandparents and father tell him about what happened back then. Leo also finds out that his father was much like him when he was a teen, doing plays and tapping. Read this book to find out how the play goes, what he does to help the family back together, and is finally noticed for his acting talent. I enjoyed reading this book because everything tied together in the end, and the authors unique style of writing this book in script form. :)

Language Arts class

We just finished reading A Christmas Carol in the 7th grade language arts class. It is five chapters long and written by Charles Dickens. It is about a grouchy man named Scrooge who is taught a lesson by a few spirits ands starts to live a better life after their encounter. I think Charles Dickens certainly lives up to his role as second to Shakespeare. The only part about the story that I had a problem with is that it was hard to understand at some times.

The Real Frank Zappa Book is a book about Frank Zappa and written by Frank Zappa. It chronicles the life of Frank Zappa from birth, when he gets his band The Mothers Of Invention, and when he goes solo and has his own band. It is about 300 pages long and unfortunatly it cannot be found in the school library.

diary of a teenage girl:sold out

this book is about a christian girl in a band and God is mentioned alot so if that will bother you don't read this. it has 284 pages and it was written by Melody Carlson.so far i am only about on page 47 and the story is mostly about a teenage girl that has all the normal high school problems. her friends do drugs and shoplift and all she realy wants is for them to become Christian like her and lead better lives. of course, not all of her friends are bad. her band is very much Christian, but her friend Laura's pastor is trying to control the band and Chloe(the narrator) does not agree. if you like "girly realities" this would be a good book to read as long as the religous mentionings will not bother you.
